The Zolani children in action during a dance class. Photo: Mariana Visser.

*Dancescape dance class in Zolani. This non-profit program provide the youngsters from the impoverished Zolani community near Ashton an alternative to drugs and gangs. The standard is exceptionally high and some of the former students are dancing with companies in Cape Town, London and New York. For some of them the sandwiches they receive after the class is often their only meal of the day.
Their dedication, despite lack of funds and resources, inspired workshop facilitator Mariana Visser to donate ballet gear, which they share. Other delegates will also be able to make donations via a Dropbox in the hall.
Delegates will travel by bus to attend and photograph two practice sessions. The cost of the return bus trip will be R40 per person.
There is limited space on these workshops and lists will be posted in the foyer of the people going – please let Mariana Visser know if you booked, but are unable to attend or if you wish to be added to the waiting list.
